A Bit of Gardening, in Spite of the Rain!

...well, I've been dashing between the raindrops this week trying to get a few of my planters filled.  It's been raining practically non-stop for over a week!! On the positive side, no sunburns and no extra watering required!  I have a great collection of tin planters I've gathered over the last 10 years or so -- they are dented and kinda rusty in places but I Love their weathered personalities.  My flower color selection this year includes lots of orange and peach, white, green and a pop or two of pink.  I have three or four more tins to plant but these add a much needed bit of color this week. Here are a few shots of the front door and porches, the flower boxes on the garage and my favorite gerbera daisies -- fingers crossed for a ray or two of sunshine SOON!

Spring has Sprung!

There are flowers blooming all over my cottage garden~ welcome Spring!

Earlier than they've ever been (due to our mild winter and warm early spring, I'm sure) these tiny blooms are the first to show their pretty faces. Minature daffodils and white crocus sway in the gentle breeze...the blue pink mix of Bethlehem Sage are the decendants of a plant I moved from my grandmother's garden over 15 years ago - I love them! And that purple one...it was a gift from a friend and neither of us have any idea what kind of plant it is - it's stem is woody, it profusely blooms hundreds of tiny lilac purple flowers before it leafs out, and the fragrance is absolutely heavenly! Do you know what it might be?

On Friday, I raked and tidied my little garden in town, freeing the patches of purple and white crocuses and wee white starflowers - I'm sure I heard them giggle as they warmed in the sun! My cottage garden is calling for some attention - all those neglected fall chores returning to haunt me. I can't wait to get at it!

New at Wild Woman Jewelry!

The Christmas rush seems to have slowed down resulting in time to create a few new designs and new editions of a few older ones! Even before the holidays are over, my thoughts turn to lighter colors and dare I say it, SPRING! The light was perfect and sent me rushing for my camera ~ what a FUN morning! Enjoy!

Magnificient Monday!

Today is one of those amazing spring days that makes a person (me!) happy to just be alive and here to enjoy it! Our yard a carpet of lush green grass (that already needs to be mowed!)...the birches are sprouting leaf niblets and seed chandeliers dangling in the breeze...the forsythia is a bright blooming yellow against a cloudless pale blue sky...perfect baby lilacs have peeked out of their leaf nests...sunlight is dancing on the river and the robins are singing while they work, building their summer homes! Could it be any better than this?!
It was my plan to get organized after yesterday's craft sale at our local market...but I'm going to get some pansies and head for the garden instead!!!
We had a good day at the first Spring Market Craft Sale! In the past, it's only been held at Christmas. The bright spring weather and so many talented artisans and crafters drew a good crowd. Thanks to everyone who dropped by my booth to have a look, a chat or to make a purchase! You are all much appreciated!

The Banner at the Beginning of the Parade

"The Earth laughs in flowers."
~ Ralph Waldo Emmerson

Yesterday was a glorious spring day in our part of the world ~ soft sunshine, greening grass, plumping lilac buds and the first float in the miraculous, awakening parade ~ Crocus! My garden invited me out all morning until I finally heeded the call, turned off the computer, put down my beads and wire and went out to muck around! Raking, digging, pruning...it was a flurry of sticks and leaves and old boughs from a Christmas wreath...all into the compost to reveal a fresh stage for my bold purple crocus!

Most years, I keep a garden journal...notes, plans, drawings, musings, quotes, records, dreams...this is a page from a couple of years ago. Clearly, the love affair is at least a few years old!

A beautiful patch of over 100 crocuses!

Tulips

My passions for color, photography and flowers are reflected here in these
photos of frilly, delicate parrot tulips in early morning sunshine. I almost
always have a beautiful bouquet on my kitchen table.
Happy Spring!
