I'm Learning to Play the Ukulele!

I'm SO excited! I played a bit of piano when I was a kid and considered taking lessons again a few years ago but never signed up.  And, I always wanted to play the guitar but felt overwhelmed by how difficult I thought it would be to learn. And then one day, a couple of years ago in Maui, hubs and I went on a sunset sailing cruise.  The 'entertainment' was a local guy who sang and played the ukulele - he was amazing! He could play anything and absolutely lifted the mood and fun for everyone aboard.  I started thinking that maybe this was something I could play.... fast forward to...

 

A couple of weeks ago while discussing summer plans with my niece, I told her I'd like to learn.  She We both love the song 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' by Iz Kamakawiwo'ole and decided to make it a summer project to learn to play it - her on the guitar and me on the ukulele! It might be ambitious but it's sure going to be fun!!  Wish us luck!!!

Colorful NEW Rings for Summer!

New Chairs for Our Deck!

We've had two cast off wooden chairs on the front deck for a few years now.  They spend the winter outside and no amount of paint and love was going to save them this year. So, off to the bonfire woodpile they went last week when hubs brought home these new lovelies (that were on sale, no less!).  Yes, they required a full weekend of my life to paint them but they look FABULOUS, darling.

It took me all weekend to paint these four chairs...it was worth it!

 They make a lovely area to lounge while dinner is on the BBQ or just to sit and chat ...AND... I can set the table and everyone still has a comfy place to relax.  Ethel and I had our breakfast here this morning!

My niece and I are writing letters, real letters, to each other. She will be 13 next week and in our  world of immediate communication, has never experienced the delicious anticipation of a letter full of news and tidbits, handwritten on beautiful stationary, being carried just for her.  We began while I was away this winter, as a way to touch something the other had held in their hands. 

 She was a hoot, sending me text photos of the letters she had written so I could see when one was on the way -- a funny mix of past and present. She wants to continue now that I'm home which excites me - it's a wonderful thing for us to share! I reminded her we've been writing to each other since she was writing to Esmerelda, the flower fairy that lives in my garden...

 

and so it continues.  I'll keep you updated!
